San Pablo Dam Seismic Project

Client:
East Bay Municipal Utilities District
Date Completed:
September 30, 2010
Location:
El Sobrante, CA
Description of Project:

Sukut teamed with Raito, Inc. to upgrade San Pablo Dam by removing the existing buttress and drilling three-foot diameter holes down to bedrock, filling them with concrete. This process known as CDSM (cement deep soil mixing) strengthened the foundation of the dam. Sukut then rebuilt the buttress making it higher and wider and regraded the site.
The project consisted of shoring up the century-old San Pablo Dam in Contra Costa County to withstand a potential magnitude seven earthquake along the Hayward or Rodgers Creek faults. We hardened the dam’s foundation and further strengthen the structure by widening the sloped downstream buttress from the bottom up.
