This project entails the construction of six miles of border access road and the border fence. Built into 1:1 natural slopes in a remote area along the California / Mexico Border.
Sukut Construction’s portion of the work included the grading of the access road and installation of a construction water delivery system located five miles from the site with over 1000 vertical feet of relief. A total of 600,000 cubic yards of rock excavation was moved and blasted, because of the steepness of the terrain and severity of site conditions the fill slopes were required to be overbuilt a minimum of three feet to ensure compaction was achieved at the design slope. The requirement was established due to safety reasons to prevent personnel and equipment from being lost over the slopes. This project was approximately 51 acres and Sukut self-performed over 90% of the work.
