Sukut’s Environmental Services market does many different types of projects. These jobs vary from Landfill Expansion projects, both public and private, ranging from $1 million to $40 million, landfill closures, also ranging from $1 million to $30 million, disaster relief/debris cleanup projects from the State of California ranging from $1 million to $75 million.
FRB Groundwater Protection System
Location: Irvine, CA
This landfill construction project consisted of five million cubic yards of compacted fill placement to buttress the North Landslide Complex at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill. The new support stabilizes the landslide to allow for the expansion of the new 1.1 million square feet of composite liner system which as constructed by Sukut along the slope face of the buttress fill. The project scope also includes landfill gas collection system construction, drainage, and 30,000 square feet of sedimentation basin improvements.
Location: Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, CA
At the beginning of 2018, Sukut was contracted by CalRecycle to perform the emergency cleanup of over 600 burned residential lots following the biggest fire in the history of California. Sukut deployed 40 crews working with 140 haul trucks to complete the massive clean-up over a large portion of Ventura County. Hazardous materials and debris were carefully sorted from each site (burn ash, metal, concrete, soil), and the material was then wrapped in trucks and hauled to a disposal site at the local Toland Rd. Landfill. At a peak pace of 80 completed homes per work week, Ventura County was able to move forward and rebuild in a safe, timely manner.
Prima Deshecha Landfill
Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA
The landfill expansion project consists of the construction of a composite liner system including mass excavation, a sub drain and leachate collection system, low-permeability soil layer, drainage gravel layer and importation and placement of operations layer and geosynthetics. The project also includes landfill gas pipeline construction, concrete drainage, a concrete lined stormwater basin and other miscellaneous civil improvements at the County of Orange facility.
Tracy Tire Fire Site Remediation Services
Location: Tracy, CA
After burning for two and one-half years, Sukut was called upon to extinguish the nations’ longest burning tire fire. An ingenious combination of foam, water and heavy equipment ingenuity made this task possible. All work was coordinated and managed by Sukut and Cal EPA on a cost-plus basis. Much of the work was performed by Sukut crews in Level 3, HazMat safety gear The Tracy site involved the loading and disposal of 90,000 tons of Class 1 and Class 2 hazardous wastes.
Location: Calabassas, CA
Liner expansion construction including mass excavation, low permeability processing and placement, 80-mil Geosynthetic liner, Geosynthetic Clay liner, protective membrane, under drain, subdrain and leachate collection system, and misc. civil improvements. This project was constructed on slopes ranging from 2:1 to 1.5:1 and on the floor of the cell.
