- Description of Project:

Sukut is creating three new reservoirs for water storage management by widening the existing live Coachella Canal. This canal serves as a crucial artery, channeling water from the Colorado River to support agricultural activities in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys. The project significantly increases the water storage capacity required during the hot summers, enabling the District to meet the high water demand. The work spans five miles of the Coachella Canal and involves relocating more than 600,000 cubic yards of saturated clay to establish the new reservoirs. Additionally, the project requires the temporary diversion of the active canal to facilitate the removal of the existing concrete lining, enabling the necessary canal expansion to support the new storage facilities.
