Sukut performed construction activities to widen the Cholame Section of Route 46 from a two-lane highway to a four-lane divided expressway. This 200-acre section extends from Post Mile 49.7 to 54.7, totaling five miles from end to end. The project’s purpose was to minimize fatal accidents, improve safety, and reduce existing and future peak-hour congestion on State Route 46 between Paso Robles and Cholame, a critical east-west corridor connecting the Central Coast and Central Valley areas of California. Sukut’s fleet of CAT 657 scrapers moved more than 1.3 million cubic yards of roadway excavation. In addition, the team installed numerous storm drain crossings and constructed two structural steel multiplate structures through the new alignment.
