Sukut realigned nearly three miles of State Route 4, upgrading the existing two-lane highway to a two-lane access-controlled expressway to improve safety and reduce accidents on this winding stretch. The project involved adjusting horizontal and vertical curves, widening the shoulders, and adding turnouts. The work required the removal of trees and 74,000 cubic yards of rock, including blasting, and approximately 328,000 cubic yards of roadway excavation. Additionally, Sukut placed 30,000 tons of hot mix and rubberized hot mix asphalt, installed 10,000 tons of rock slope protection, realigned a creek with a concrete channel featuring decorative grouted rock, and constructed a 530-foot-long, 39-foot-tall mechanically stabilized earth wall.
