The Cajon Air Center Drainage Improvement Project Receives the ASCE 2022 Outstanding Flood Management Project Award

April 18, 2022

The Cajon Air Center Drainage Improvement project, located in El Cajon and executed by Sukut Construction, received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Diego Section 2022 Outstanding Flood Management project award.

The award recognizes flood management and protection projects that display advances and innovation in their work methods, approach, and execution and benefit the environment and downstream lands and communities.

Sukut completed the 15-acre project for the County of San Diego in August of 2020. The work included installing a new concrete storm drain system and grading the infield area between runways at the Cajon Air Center. The surface precision grading had to be done during the night when the runway adjacent to the active airport was closed. Sukut installed over 3,000 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe in diameters ranging from 18 to 42 inches and an 820-foot-long reinforced concrete box during the process. Sukut also excavated 10,000 cubic yards of earth and performed dewatering and treatment of contaminated groundwater.
